Survival Island – Devblog 18

This week have not added or changed much, This have been the first playtesting week, where the main objective was to gather feedback and work on the feedback recieved. Playtesting is a phase that the game needs to go through to gather feedback from people who have not tried or seen the game yet. This phase was not successfull this time. There was 5 people who signed up to playtest, but sadly only 1 of them did as required. 4 people have gotten their access to the game removed due to not playtesting as agreed. It is ofc sad to see that people who say they want to help and playtest ignore it when the time actually comes. Would have hoped that people cared a little more. But nothing else i can do other than move on. So i’m still working on the project as always. A new playtest phase will start when new playtesters have signed up. Sign up form will follow the next update.

Other than this, i added the crafting book to the game. Not the item, that is there from before. But now there is content in the book. Have a look below^^

Crafting Update

I have changed how crafting works. Originally, you would have a craft window where you would insert items in a certain pattern and get a result based on that. But for recipes, i was going to add a book where you could see all possible combinations. After a bit of thinking while working on the crafting book. I realized that opening and closing the book over and over just to check a recipe would feel wrong. So crafting now happens inside the book. When in the book, you can choose between a number of categories. After clicking one, the book will display possible items for you to craft. It display the name of the item, a image of the item, and the item requirements to craft this item. There is also a craft button next to the item you can click to craft the item. This system also allows me to make certain recipes unlockable.

Added:

  • Added the crafting book.

Changed:

  • The hoe tool now works with raycasting (just like the hammer tool and placement mechanic).
  • Crafting now happens in the crafting book.

Removed:

  • Crafting menu (pre book)

Existing bugs:

  • Players can sometimes spawn on small islands offshore from the main island.
  • Enviromental objects sometimes spawn a little outside of its selected biome.

Fixed bugs:

  • Fixed a issue with saving and loading enviromental objects.
  • Fixed a issue causing sign text not to display correctly.
  • Fixed a issue causing the Hoe tool not to work with the new map generation.
  • Fixed the biome checker with the new map generation.

Enabled: (things that was disabled in the prevoius update, but is now enabled again)

Disabled: (disabled is not removed, things listed here will be enabled again eventually)
