Survival Island – Devblog 15

This update bring alot of changes and new stuff, including pebble tools and a minimap. Most bugs have also been fixed. The ui have gotten some changes and theres also a trash slot in the backpack now. A wooden sign have been added to you can now lable stuff, And the flower pot have been re-enabled. Playtesters have gotten access to play, so they know about all changed and have tried them already. But there are still more spots for playtesting. If you want to playtest, simply contact me on discord.

Steam playtesting

The game is now on steam hidden from the public eye. Access can be granted with a code recieved from me. This code is only given to playtesters for the time being. The steam version will be the newest version of the game, meaning the steam version may contain features that are in a upcoming devblog. So a early access kind of. Playtesters will be required to report feedback every week. And fill out forms with bugs and how to reproduce the bug etc. Contact Mr.Digi on Discord for access to playtesting.

Minimap

I’ve added a minimap to the game, because it was hard finding my house after walking around on the island for a little while. But the minimap is not avaliable at first. First you must obtain the Map item. When you have the map, simple equip it and use it to bring up the map. The map will be a craftable item, but it will require some rare items to craft. That will be added later.

New item – Wooden Sign

The wooden sign is a new placeable added to the game. The reason behind adding it is mainly because of chests, but they can still be used other places if wanted. When you start having alot of chests in your world, it would be great to label them. The sign can be places on the ground like other items, but it can also be placed on walls, meaning you can have it next to or above a chest. Or use it as a welcome message at your door. When a sign has been placed, click it to go into edit mode for the sign. Then type what you want it to display and hit the save icon. After that, the sign will display your text when you hover it with your mouse. Signs can not be edited after saving the text. This is intended, but might be changed later on if need be.

Trash slot

The trash slot is a addition to the backpack allowing you to delete items you dont want. But be careful, it will delete everything you place in it. This includes entire stacks of items.

Pebble tools

I’ve added pebble tools to the game, this currently includes a pebble hatchet, and pebble pickaxe. The pebble tools are worse than stone tools, but it will be the first tools obtained when playing. Use these tools to gain resources and obtain better tools.

Game Version

I’ve added a version number displaying in the main menu. This makes it easier to see what version you’re playing, and it will also allow me to add another mechanic later on. I’m going to add a force delete function. This is something i can enable that will delete a previous savefile if it is not the correct version. Reason behind this is that i might add something that require a new save for it to either spawn on the map, or something else. So being able to force a fresh start will help in the playtest phase. This function will not be used in the full release.

Changed:

  • Adjusted the cave fog, its now thicker. (part of a upcoming requirement for caves).
  • There is now light around the player when inside a cave. This effect will be applied by a item later on.
  • Planted crops that are finished growing can sometimes drop 2 seeds.
  • Food can now be eaten by selecting it and pressing space.
  • Crops will now die after a while if not harvested. Dead crops yield nothing.
  • Inventory and crafting ui has been updated.
  • The stick graphic is updated.
  • Tools now have a damage value, and breakable objects now use those numbers.
  • Sticks and pebbles now spawn in the enviroment, and can be picked up by pressing E.
  • Trees now drop a maximum of 1 seed, descreased from 2.
  • You can now toggle the backpack by pressing the backpack slot.
  • The crafting panel now opens with the backpack, no longer a different button.

  • Fixed a bug causing the day night cycle to affect caves.
  • Believe to have fixed a long lasting issue with crafting. You can now pick up items into a existing stack.
  • Fixed a issue causing the cave fog and world fog to share values.
  • Fixed a issue causing caves to be too dark.
  • Fixed a issue causing quitting in the pause menu not to save all data.
  • Fixed a issue causing food to be eaten if placed in a selected slot.
  • Fixed a issue causing the hammer not to destroy farmland.
  • Fixed a issue allowing the hunger to be more than 100.
  • Fixed a issue causing items to get picked up into the backpack when the player didnt have a backpack.
  • Fixed a issue causing item information panel to sometimes be outside the screen.

Disabled: (disabled is not removed, things listed here will be enabled again eventually)
